Nonprofit Organization
RTP is a nonprofit youth development organization based in Chicago with a mission to empower
underprivileged youth ages 14–21 through the transformative power of culture, media, music, and film.
Established to address the gap between classroom learning and career readiness, RTP prepares young people for
life beyond school by equipping them with critical skills, professional exposure, and the confidence necessary
to thrive in adulthood. The program is uniquely positioned to respond to community challenges such as
unemployment, lack of access to career opportunities, and exposure to violence, with the overarching goal of
building resilience, reducing risk factors, and fostering pathways to long-term success.
RTP provides a structured and supportive environment where participants develop essential life and workforce
skills. Core program areas include music, media, film, financial literacy, interview preparation, resume building,
entrepreneurship, transition-to-adulthood readiness, and the cultivation of motivation and excellence. In
addition to technical and professional competencies, the program emphasizes personal growth by encouraging
youth to explore their cultural identity, strengthen emotional management, and build self-esteem. This dual
emphasis on career readiness and personal development ensures that students are not only employable but also
empowered to become productive, socially responsible members of their communities.
Instruction is delivered through a blended approach that incorporates classroom activities, multimedia
resources, guest speakers, and hands-on projects. Students meet one to three times per week during after school
hours, ensuring both accessibility and consistency. Formative assessments, including short reflective writing
assignments, are used to measure comprehension, critical thinking, and the application of skills. These
evaluations also provide program staff with data to monitor progress toward established learning outcomes,
such as improved emotional regulation, increased cultural self-awareness, enhanced professionalism, and
stronger social interaction skills.
RTP’s community-centered model relies on partnerships with schools, law enforcement, school districts, and
local organizations. These collaborations strengthen the program’s reach and ensure alignment with broader
community violence prevention and youth empowerment initiatives. By addressing root causes of unhealthy
behaviors and providing constructive alternatives, RTP positions itself as both a safe space and a catalyst for
systemic change. Ultimately, RTP aims to reduce violence, expand career opportunities, and empower Chicago
youth to envision and pursue positive future.
